• UMPA Reaffilitation
  
  To maintain the Group's affiliation with UMPA, it must reaffiliate every year by March 31st.
  
  
  • Robert Shelton raised a motion to reaffiliate with UMPA
  • The motion was passed unanimously
  • The new committee will apply to UMPA for reaffiliation by March 31st


• President's Report
  
  Robert Shelton reported on the activities organised by the Group over the previous year:
  
  
  • Firstly thanks should be given to UMPA for supporting the CSSEPG. Without out their financial contributions, many of the following activities would not have happened.
  • The group continued support for the student efforts in improving general University Square student services and amenities by working within a partnership of several University Square student societies (5 groups, representing all students in the Law and ICT buildings) who are petitioning the University to improve services in the off-campus area. E.g. to provide a local prayer room.
  • Weekly or morning teas were organised and kept going for the entire year. This included providing a range of drinks and and finger food. Special thanks to Joanne, Damien, Tariq and Allison for helping out with providing excellent food for postgraduate morning teas. It would be great to see more people volunteering their talents or knowledge in 2005.
  • The CSSEPG organised a pizza and beer evening in the level four staff room on July the 22nd (2004). This event aimed particularly at trying to involve the coursework students and staff in postgraduate activities. This event went really well, but then again it is difficult to imagine any event with that much beer and pizza going any other way. Special mention should be given to Nicole for most of the organisation and also for setting a record time in the solo walk down Lygon street with slabs under both arms.
  • CSSEPG was involved in the revision of the postgraduate survival guide and would like to thank Harold for the invitation to participate with this process.
  • Throughout the year the CSSEPG has been interested in supporting social activity groups. This has included a pool crew playing at the Corkman, an ad-hoc soccer mailing list, film club, and finally support for the chess club.
  • The CSSEPG sent a representative to the postgraduate representative network meetup (May 24th, 2004). This was a meeting organised by UMPA and provided an interesting perspective on the amount of postgraduate representation. It would also be an excellent forum for the 2005 committee to meet with other representatives from law and information systems in order to organise university square based events.
  • Towards the end of the year the CSSEPG aimed to involve prospective postgraduates in events organised. This included inviting summer research students and honours student to CSSEPG events.
  • After being beaten to the booking of the 5th floor balcony by information systems, the next day selected for the postgraduate end of year lunch was then crashed by the department Christmas lunch (16th of December, 2004). Although this moved us from the 5th floor balcony to the foyer of the balcony, the food provided by the department was excellent and left the CSSEPG free to provide mostly drinks and decorations. Special thanks to Grant for helping with the building booking systems.
  • The committee also scouted through with digital cameras aiming to both advertise the existence of the CSSEPG and also talk to the postgrads we are supposed to represent (especially those that can not attend morning tea). Not to mention that have pretty pictures that we can now throw onto the CSSEPG website.
  
  Robert Shelton raised a motion to accept the President's report. The motion was passed unanimously.


• Treasurer's Report
  
  Zhu Zhou (Treasurer 2003/04) presented the financial reports for the period beginning at the previous AGM and ending at the present one:
  
  
  • The Group had a $215.47 surplus at the 2004 AGM
  • The Group expended a total of $785.36
  • The Group had a total income of $700.00
  • The Group now has an approximate surplus of $130.11. This does not take into account the cost of the AGM or Round 1 Funding from UMPA
  • A motion to accept the Treasurer's report was made by Robert Shelton, and was passed unanimously.


• Member Feedback
  
  Rob Shelton solicited general feedback from the attendees, as to how the CSSEPG is running, what activities could be run, what if any problems they were experiencing as postgraduates in the Dept CSSE, etc.:
  
  
  • Shane Culpepper suggested a film screening of the movie "Office Space".
  
  There was no other feedback or concerns.


• Committee Election
  
  All committee positions were put up for election. The election proceeded according to the Group's Constitution, with the following results:

    • Secretary - Shane Culpepper (nominees were Shane Culpepper; vote was unanimous)
