`Research Writing and Process' seminar series

The department will run a series on research writing and understanding the research process for postgraduate students. Postgraduate students who attend will be expected to develop a piece of writing as part of the seminar series.

Topics that will be addressed (some only briefly) include:
  • Research Writing
    • Thesis examination criteria
    • Conducting a critical review of the literature
    • Study design and results
    • Discussions and conclusions
    • Dissemination plans
    • Responding to peer reviews
    • Checklist for submission
  • Research Process
    • How I go about doing research
    • Evaluating the worth of research
    • Where should I submit
    • Reviewing a paper
    • Serving on a program committee
    • Writing a grant proposal
The series is particularly designed for new research postgraduates but all colleagues are most welcome.
