Paul Buitelaar is a senior researcher at the Language Technology Lab of the German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) and co-chair of the DFKI Competence Center Semantic Web. He studied Computational Linguistics at Utrecht University, the Netherlands and Computer Science at Brandeis University, USA. His main research interest is in Language Technology for Semantic-Based Information Access. At DFKI he has been working on a number of EU and German funded projects, including MuchMore on concept-based cross-lingual medical information retrieval (2000-2003) and SmartWeb on mobile access to the Semantic Web (2004-now). He was initiator and coordinator of a Special Interest Group on Language Technology in Ontology Development and Use within the EU funded thematic network OntoWeb (2001-2004).
